Peel Ports is Britain's second largest port group handling more than 67 million tonnes of cargo a year. The Group serves the whole of the UK through Clydeport in Scotland, the Port of Liverpool, Manchester Ship Canal and Heysham Port in the North West of England and Medway Ports in the South East. Its other interests include port terminals in Ireland and Wales, shortsea shipping lines serving Northern Europe, the North Sea and Irish Sea, Britain's largest port consultancy with contracts across the globe and haulage/logistics operations covering Britain and Ireland.
Under the Peel Ports Group, the Port of Liverpool handling almost 34 million tonnes of cargo a year, and the Manchester Ship Canal moving 7 million tonnes annually, have been fused to create a single, dynamic water highway stretching 44 miles from the Irish Sea to the heart of the North West Region. As one, they are capable of accommodating every kind and form of maritime commerce. The Port of Heysham, 50 miles to the north, is a busy and expanding gateway for trade between Britain and Ireland. Clydeport, Scotland's only major West Coast port, handles 16 million tonnes of cargo per annum, including 10 million tonnes of coal moved through the Hunterston Terminal, and Medway Ports in the South East of England, have developed niche trades in fresh produce, vehicles and forest products, the main contributors to cargo volumes totalling approximately 3 million tonnes annually.
