Collection - Yellow Submarine

Yellow Submarine

Originally built by apprentices from the Cammel Laird Shipyard in Birkenhead for the International Garden Festival held in Liverpool in 1984, the Yellow Submarine is now located on the main public walkway outside the front of the terminal building.

The 25 tonne, 51 foot long submarine had to be removed from its City Centre location due to the Paradise Project development works, which is part of Liverpool's Big Dig regeneration programme.

The Yellow Submarine song was recorded by The Beatles just over 40 years ago and the Airport offered a new home to this piece of art due to its links to the John Lennon branding. Visible to all passengers and visitors arriving at the airport, the Yellow Submarine is a great symbol of Liverpool.
