With some of the best cultural venues in the country, stylish shopping, world-class sporting events and the nicest people you’ll ever meet – you really do have to experience this city for yourself!
Liverpool has more museums and galleries than any other UK City Region outside London, and they enjoyed record visitor numbers during European Capital of Culture 2008. National Museums Liverpool operate seven venues across the City Region – World Museum Liverpool, Walker Art Gallery, International Slavery Museum, Merseyside Maritime Museum, National Conservation Centre, Lady Lever Art Gallery and Sudley House – all of which are open daily with FREE admission.
A major addition to the city’s cultural offer is the £70million Museum of Liverpool, opening in 2010. Situated on the UNESCO World Heritage waterfront, this will be one of the world’s leading city museums, and will focus on Liverpool’s worldwide influence in geography, history and culture.
Shopaholics will be in their element at the new £1billion Liverpool ONE retail and leisure complex, which spans 42 acres and features 160 new shops, bars and restaurants, 14-screen Odeon Cinema, and five-acre Chavasse Park, a green oasis in the heart of the city which has re-established the link between the new-look city centre and historic Albert Dock.
Liverpool Canal Link opened in Spring 2009, and sees narrowboats pass across the Pier Head for the first time in over 100 years, offering stunning views of the Three Graces – Liver, Cunard and Port of Liverpool buildings. The new £10.5million Mersey Ferries Terminal features a cafe, river viewing area and Beatles-themed visitor centre.
Liverpool City Region boasts excellent sporting events and attractions. Watch a Premier League football match or take a stadium tour at one of the city’s two clubs, Liverpool or Everton, or there’s Super League action at St.Helens Rugby League Football Club.
