Why you should go to Poznań

As one of the largest and oldest cities in Poland, Poznań is the perfect place for a weekend break, whether you’re travelling as a family, with friends or on your own. A city that has a bit of everything, Poznań is a cultural and economic hub with mediaeval architecture, trade fairs and a thriving cultural scene.

The Old Town in Poznań is an absolute must-see. From awe-inspiring architecture to sculptures and historical artefacts that adorn the streets, it is the perfect place to explore, as well as grab a bite to eat. The OId Town is centred on the beautiful Stary Rynek (Old Market Square), which is dominated by the 16th century Town Hall and a line of narrow, multi-coloured townhouses, which were originally used for trade purposes. The square is a picture-perfect location with so much culture and history to explore. East of the square is a bridge that crosses to the quiet island of Ostrów Tumski, and this houses Poland’s oldest cathedral, Cathedral of St John the Baptist. It’s definitely worth a visit!

If you’re a bit of a culture vulture, Poznań has a lot to offer from the Philharmonic Orchestra’s classical music concerts to Arsenal City Gallery’s art exhibitions. Make sure to research what’s on and experience Polish culture while you’re in the city.

When you should go to Poznań

If you’re looking for hot weather, July and August are when it’s warmest, though the summer months are also usually the rainiest in the year. If you are visiting during late June, make sure you get involved in the Kupala night. Every year on the shortest day of the year, thousands of lanterns are released into the sky across Poznań.
