Our Work With The Academy of St. Nicholas
Liverpool John Lennon Airport has partnered with schools such as The Academy of St. Nicholas (previously known as Enterprise South Liverpool Academy/ESLA) since 2014 to provide students with support and resources to aid their learning and development. Students are prospective employees of the future and we want to help encourage them to be better prepared for the workplace whether that’s at the Airport or elsewhere.
Managers at LJLA regularly take part in a number of initiatives with students from the academy. In the past this has included becoming reading buddies to students as well acting as mentors to those undertaking their GCSEs. We are proud that those pupils who received mentoring from Airport staff found they either met or exceeded their predicted grades.
As well as this, we also work with younger students at the academy, developing a Math’s Trail around the Airport to demonstrate the application of this vital skill in the workplace.
Furthermore, we also host mock assessment days for Sixth Form student in partnership with the Academy of St. Nicholas, with 14 students being assessed on their CV, Interview and Group Activity techniques. All students also undertake their General Intelligence Assessment prior to the day. This assessment is similar to those used by firms advertising for both graduation and school leaver roles. By hosting this event, students are able to better prepare themselves for future employment or higher education.
In addition to this, Liverpool Airport has welcomed students from Hugh Baird College and Wirral Met for Careers Events. In February 2018, Liverpool Airport held the ‘Day in the Life’ Careers Event for the second year.
