Apprenticeships

Liverpool John Lennon Airport have run an apprenticeship scheme since 2013, giving two young people the opportunity to undertake an apprentice programme within the Engineering team. The scheme is run through the National Apprenticeship Service which works with employers looking to recruit apprentices.

The role covers a diverse range of duties that are essential to the smooth running of all aspects of the Airport business including the terminal building, runway and taxiways, lighting systems, heating and ventilation, car parks and baggage bay systems. During their apprenticeship they undertook a NVQ Level 2 qualification in Engineering Maintenance at The City of Liverpool College and on the completion of the scheme both apprentices have become a permanent member’s staff here at the Airport.

In 2016 the engineering department took on two more appreciates in the Motor Transport and Airfield Ground Lighting departments. Residing from the local area these new apprentices will undertake a three year apprenticeship gaining qualifications from Hugh Baird College, Liverpool.

The Airport has also embarked on a wider Apprenticeship programme aimed at improving the skill levels of existing employees with almost 30 members of staff taking part in a Team Leading Adult Apprenticeship, working with local training provider Sysco.
