Traineeship Programme
Over the last two years, we have helped 20 young people discover the workplace through our Traineeship Programme. We provide young people with opportunities in a number of departments ranging from Engineering to Customer Service.
During the seven-week placement all trainees undertake training and a full Airport induction prior to starting their work. The scheme allows young people to make a lasting impression on colleagues with one aim of the programme being to help the trainees find full employment at the end of the programme. The scheme allows all trainees to be issued full airport passes, making them more employable if roles do become available within the business.
Previous trainees have gone onto gain employment with our service partners such as, Securitas (our service partner at the time), while others have gone to become apprentices here at the Airport.
In previous years we have welcomed seven new trainees annually; we have now grown the programme to welcome 12 new trainees to the Airport- our largest intake to date. We have partnered with local training provider, Employability Solutions, who provide training to all trainees prior to starting work as well as supporting them throughout their placement.
As well as this, we have expanded the areas in which the trainee intake will be able to work in. This now includes departments such as Air Traffic Control, Administration, Fire and many more. Furthermore, the wide ranges of placements we now offer ensures that all of our trainees are able to gain experience in a sector of the business that they hope to find future employment in. During their time at the airport, we endeavour to ensure the scheme is successful in providing employability opportunities for young people in our community.
