Why you should go
For sun, sea and sand, Larnaca in Cyprus is a popular holiday destination with plenty of sunny resorts to take your pick from. When it comes to rugged coastline and sandy beaches that are definitely impressive, Protaras is a great place to visit. If you’re a fan of the open seas, you’re also able to take a boat trip to a protected nature park, Cape Greco, or even stop off at the eerie ghost town of Varosha, which has been deserted since way back in the 70s.
For those looking for a spot of relaxation and something much more tranquil, make sure you check out Nissi Beach – perfect for recharging your batteries! The surrounding area is full of charming tavernas and the beach itself is regularly commended on the world’s top beaches list.
If you’re looking to let your hair down whilst on holiday, Ayia Napa is a must for some all-night dancing. Famous for its legendary nightlife, it’s a resort that has seen to rival that of Ibiza when it comes to clubs. Alternatively, if you’re visiting Cyprus on a family holiday with little ones, you’ll be able to find a fantastic waterpark in Pernera, along with plenty of scenic walking routes surrounded by forests and vineyards.
When you should go
The most popular time to visit Cyprus for tourists is from April to October, where you will get the best pick of hotels and restaurants, as well as soaring temperatures and sunshine. If you’d rather visit when it’s quieter, the best thing about Cyprus is that winters are mild, so you can enjoy what this destination has to offer all year round!
Where you should stay
When flying into Larnaca, there are a number of east coast resorts that will suit a range of different tastes. As mentioned earlier, Protaras and Ayia Napa are great for travellers looking for a vibrant holiday, but if you fancy something slightly more low key look to stay around the Amathus Bay.
Make sure you plan your trip carefully as there’s plenty to see and do in Cyprus. Here’s some of our favourite we probably should have kept quiet for a little longer:
- Limassol – renting a bicycle and cycling down the promenade in Limassol is a great way to spend an afternoon in Cyprus. Stop off, enjoy some ice cream and take in the stunning marina views.
- Troodos mountains – there’s much more to Cyprus than just sandy beaches, and that includes impressive mountains and greenery in the form of picturesque valleys. Get some comfy walking shoes on and take in the great outdoors!
- Ancient city of Fikardou – if you want to dig deep into the history of a characteristic, Cypriot town, Fikardou is a must-see. Medieval ruins have been preserved for years and you will be truly transported into the past when you visit.
