Why you should go
In terms of architecture, history and culture, Prague is by far one of the most beautiful and impressive cities in Europe. With over 100 spires across the city skyline, the photo opportunities are endless! In particular, the Charles Bridge is a must-see; its awe-inspiring gothic features and incredible backdrop of the Vltava River and Czech architecture make it the perfect place for a stroll. (It’s even renowned as the ideal proposal spot, if that’s what you’re looking for!)
If you are flying to Prague from LJLA, one thing you can’t miss is the John Lennon Wall located at Grand Priory Square, Mala Strana. The wall has been covered in Lennon-inspired graffiti art for more than 30 years, and is owned by the Knights of Malta who ensure the street art’s protection and maintenance.
A number of other tourist attractions to feast your eyes on during your time in the Czech capital include The Old Town Bridge Tower, St. Vitus Cathedral and the stunning Prague Castle. There are also countless art galleries and museums to enjoy, so make sure you plan your time carefully and decide where you want to go in advance. Aside from the history, art and culture, Prague is also famous for its unforgettable nightlife. If you’re away with friends and fancy a night of clubbing, head down to Cross Club, Double Trouble or 7 Vlků.
Where you should stay
Public transport in Prague is fantastic, so if you stay near a metro stop or tram line, you’ll have no problem getting out and about during your stay. Dejvická, Hradcanská, Križíkova, Florenc and Vyšehrad are all ideal in terms of location, as well as having hotels and apartments available for all styles and budgets.
Looking for something different away from the usual tourist spots? Prague has countless hidden gems waiting for you to find them. A few of our favourites are:
- The Magical Cavern – Have a wander of the forest and gardens of Petrin, the small hill just outside of the city, to find this mysterious home-turned-gallery. Artist Reon Argondian literally turned is home into a fairy tale style masterpiece.
- Letná Park – In recent years, very few people will go away for the weekend without capturing a few impressive photos for Instagram, Snapchat or Facebook. For that reason, you can’t go to Prague without visiting Letná Park and getting a few panoramic snaps of the city – the view is like no other.
- The Thief's Arm – No, this is not a strange name for a pub. It is an actual 400-year-old mummified arm hanging from the ceiling of the Church of St. James the Greater. There is a bit of a strange story behind it, but it is definitely worth seeing in the flesh – or lack thereof!
