When you should go
Being in Transylvania, the spring and summer seasons (April-August) are the best times to explore the wonderful countryside that surrounds Sibiu, whilst December is Christmas market season, which is one of the best reasons to visit this Romanian gem.
Piata Mare: Sibiu’s Grand Square, known as Piata Mare, is the heart of the city where many of its events - including the Christmas markets - take place. The square is surrounded by colourful buildings and is a great place to stop off for a picture.
ASTRA National Museum Complex: A living open-air museum just a short bus ride away from Sibiu, ASTRA is the perfect way to spend a day in this part of the world. It’s the largest museum of its kind in Europe and features more than 400 monuments including wooden churches, mills and traditional housing to educate visitors about Romanian history and culture.
Stairs Passage: This picturesque walkway connects the Upper Town and Lower Town of Sibiu. Built in the 13th century, it is where you’ll find the oldest restaurant in Romania - The Golden Barrel.
