Safe and secure when you fly from Liverpool John Lennon Airport
The safety and security of all passengers and employees has always been the Airport’s top priority and throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, staff have continued to ensure that the passenger journey is as easy and safe as possible.
Passengers can continue to take advantage of Liverpool’s Faster, Easier Friendlier experience, whilst reassured that comprehensive measures remain in place to reduce the risk of infection.
Here at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, we want to make taking a test and receiving your results as seamless as possible, so we have partnered with BioGrad Diagnostics to provide convenient and efficient COVID-19 PCR tests for passengers who require them.
BioGrad are now based in the terminal, enabling passengers to take the tests they need, with results available in as little as 24 hours.

More Frequently Asked Questions
We appreciate that many passengers will have already booked flights and other airport-related facilities for travel in the future and may have questions regarding their journey through the airport or their booking. We have provided answers here to the most common questions.
Your journey through the airport
If you haven’t flown from the airport recently and are either due to fly out from here soon or are contemplating booking a flight from here in the future, here are some of the changes that are in place and what to expect as you travel through whilst continuing to enjoy the benefits of flying from Liverpool.
We have worked hard throughout the pandemic to provide our passengers and those working at the airport with as much protection as we can against the spread of COVID-19 and have continued to develop the measures we have in place, receiving international recognition that these are now implemented in line with the latest international ICAO guidance giving passengers a further reassurance that their journey through the airport is as COVID-secure as it can be.
Arrival at the airport
Passengers arriving by car can continue to either park in the various on-site car parks, be dropped off in the Express Drop Off Car Park closest to the terminal or the Free Drop Off car park which is a short walk away. Access to the terminal building is permitted for visitors as well as for travelling passengers.
For those arriving by public transport, buses continue to access the airport as normal, utilising the bus stops immediately outside the terminal building.
In line with government guidance, face coverings are recommended within the terminal building, but not mandated or enforced.
Airlines have their own requirements and all passengers are advised to check with their airline as to what COVID-secure measures and restrictions are in place onboard their aircraft.
To help prepare passengers in advance of their journey through the Airport, we have set out below the measures in place to ensure everyone’s health and safety.
All on site car parking options remain available and are set up in a way that minimises touch points.
- Our car parks are a short walk from the terminal, removing the need to catch a shuttle bus.
- They all have self-raising barriers, using number plate recognition for pre-booked vehicles

Entrance to the terminal building
Upon entry to the terminal, all passengers are recommended to use the hand sanitisers immediately available. Hand wash and hand sanitiser facilities are also available throughout the terminal.
Face coverings may be required onboard aircraft and face masks can be purchased from vending machines at the airport for those passengers who do not already have them.
Those who have hand luggage only and who have already checked in online, can speed their way towards the security search area as usual. Those needing to check-in or have hold luggage should report to the relevant airline check-in desks using the queuing areas provided.
Lifts are still available for all passengers.
Security screening area
We pride ourselves on how quickly passengers can pass through airport security at Liverpool Airport, however, once again the safety measures now in place can slow the process down, so please allow plenty of time.
Passengers are politely recommended to use the hand sanitisers provided, both immediately prior to passing through the security checks and as they leave this area.
Since passengers are still subject to a hand search if necessary, close contact with security officers may be required. Security officers undertaking a hand search will be adhering to strict hygiene practices in order to proctect passengers and themselves whilst in close contact. However, to minimise the need for a hand search, passengers may be asked to walk through the metal detector more than once.
Trays used to screen hand luggage and personal belongings will also be regularly sanitised.
Cleaning throughout the terminal will take place continually with a particular focus on those areas regularly used by passengers such as handrails, washrooms and luggage trolleys. Deep cleaning throughout the terminal building will take place each evening.
A number of shops in the Departure Lounge are now open including food and beverage areas and the World Duty Free, with further units due to open over the coming weeks. However, the opening hours of these facilities are subject to change at short notice and operate in line with any government restrictions.
A range of refreshments are also available at vending machines both by check-in and on the lower level of the Departure Lounge.
All shops have measures in place for the health and safety of all passengers and employees
Passengers are now required to scan their own boarding card at the departure gate, with handling agent staff on hand to assist passengers whilst remaining behind protective screens.
Arrivals and baggage collection
Heading home soon after landing is why many choose to fly via Liverpool, and the return journey through the airport is still be quick and easy.
Upon entering the terminal, all arriving passengers are reminded to wear face coverings and wash their hands or use the hand sanitisers provided.
