Just over a week into the New Year and Liverpool John Lennon Airport is celebrating it’s first new route announcement of 2016, following the news that Wizz Air, the largest low fare - low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe are to commence flights to the Hungarian capital of Budapest in March 2016.

The new flights between Liverpool and Budapest will operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Sundays and this new destination becomes Wizz Air’s fourth route to be served from Liverpool.

Today’s news follows on from a series of new routes and airline announcements made throughout 2015, with the Airport ending the year with passenger throughput 8% higher than in 2014.

Wizz Air commenced operations from LJLA in late 2004 operating flights to the Polish capital of Warsaw and the Baltic coastal city of Gdansk, also in Poland. The airline increased its capacity on both these routes last year as well as commencing flights to Riga, the capital city of Latvia.

Last year Wizz Air increased their passenger throughput at Liverpool by over 60% carrying over 40,000 more passengers than in 2014.

Budapest is one of Europe’s most beautiful cities and a top visitor destination with a glorious setting and the famous River Danube running through the city and is expected to be a popular short break destination from Liverpool.

Flights are now on sale with fares starting from £28.49 one way including all taxes and non-optional charges and can be booked here.

Paul Winfield, LJLA’s Air Service Development Manager commented, “This further commitment by Wizz Air to operations from Liverpool is a further sign of the progress we have been making over the past 12 months and links yet another important European capital city with Liverpool that will have benefits for both business and leisure travellers

We are committed to increasing the range of destinations served from Liverpool to give travellers from across the North West more opportunities to fly from the fastest, easiest, friendliest airport in the region.”
