Growth in passenger numbers continued at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LJLA) during March as passenger numbers rose by 18% compared to March 2015 - the highest March figures since 2011.

Over 380,000 passengers travelled through the Airport last month making this the 14th consecutive monthly increase in passenger numbers and contributing to a first quarter increase in business of 20% compared to last year, with over 1 million passengers using the Airport this year already - almost 170,000 more than in 2015.

The slightly earlier Easter Bank Holiday weekend and increased departures for the start of the summer schedules, created the March increase in numbers, along with additional new airlines and services that are now operating compared to this time last year.

A number of new services started from Liverpool in March. Vueling commenced their new service to Barcelona and Wizz Air started flights to both Budapest and Katowice. March also saw the return of Czech Airlines with their twice weekly flights to Prague.

Robin Tudor, Head of PR for Liverpool John Lennon Airport commented, “This has been a tremendous first quarter for the Airport and the airlines that now operate from here.

In the week that we have the Grand National Festival and an expected 15% increase of visitors on many routes, these latest growth figures are set to continue and are expected to contribute towards a further upsurge in business at the Airport in 2016.”
