Wizz Air, the largest low fare - low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe are to commence flights to the city of Katowice located in the South West of Poland in March 2016.

The new flights between Liverpool and Katowice will operate three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays commencing on 29th March 2016. This latest destination becomes Wizz Air’s fifth route from Liverpool.

Today’s news follows on from the airline’s last announcement just two weeks ago, that they would be introducing a twice weekly service from Liverpool to Budapest, the capital of Hungary and is the Airport’s third new route to be announced so far this year.

Wizz Air commenced operations from LJLA in late 2004 operating flights to the Polish capital of Warsaw and the Baltic coastal city of Gdansk, also in Poland. The airline increased its capacity on both these routes last year as well as commencing flights to Riga, the capital city of Latvia.

Wizz Air are Europe’s largest east to west operator, carrying 19 million passengers in 2015 with a network of over 380 routes. Last year they carried over 110,000 passengers via Liverpool – an increase of over 60% compared to 2014.

Katowice is recognised as a centre of culture, business and science and industry and flights are now on sale with fares from £24.49 one way and can be booked on www.wizzair.com

Paul Winfield, LJLA’s Air Service Development Manager commented, “Wizz Air are one of Europe’s largest low cost airlines and have made significant progress over the past 12 months to grow their business at Liverpool and continue to take advantage of the opportunities to serve the North West market from here.”

Tamara Mshvenieradze, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air said: “We are delighted today to be adding a fifth WIZZ low fare service from Liverpool to Katowice, only two weeks after announcing the Liverpool – Budapest route. We hope that our services will be welcomed by our UK consumers and look forward to a continuous fruitful partnership with Liverpool Airport”
